Pulp Fiction

BY JENNA SIMPSON

THE DL: A group of criminals, thugs, drug dealers, scam artists, other various reprobates and a mysterious glowing case take a winding, circular trip through L.A.
RESIDENT BAMF: Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson). A Bible-quoting assassin just trying to be a better man is the best kind of assassin.
WHAT A QT! (CLASSIC QUENTIN MOMENT): Tough call. This is the movie that sort of made QT moments a “thing.” And this movie is full of them, from the opening dialogue to Butch’s cab ride after the fight with Esmeralda Villa Lobos to the ever-famous “Royale with Cheese”. But since I have to choose just one, it’s gotta be the restaurant dance contest scene. It’s totally random, quirky/weird, ultra-cool, highly stylized and completely awesome.
PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC: Probably the best-known song from this very well-known soundtrack is the first one, which plays over the opening titles just after the diner scene at the beginning of the movie. “Misirlou” by Dick Dale and his Del-Tones is ‘60s surf rock at its finest.
NOTABLE QUOTABLE:

I’mma get medieval on your ass

– Marcellus Wallace, to Zed.

Because, well, the first time I saw this scene I’d never seen anything like it. Pure gold.
